His Word Through Our Mouths Into Our Hearts

At the beginning of the Bible, in Genesis, God's word is so powerful that it creates the world. On the first day of 2014, I read this passage and found that the one thing that stands out in the story of creation is the following sentence: "And there was evening, and there was morning"

With every one of the six days, God made sure that evening would come first, and then morning. The sun setting...and the sun rising. The darkness taking over, and the light returning. The Bible begins with a metaphor for how all the following stories will unfold. There will be a huge amount of darkness - filled with obstacles, trials, temptations etc. - and then there will be an even greater light that overcomes everything.

The problems we still encounter as humans today are revealed in these first passages of Genesis. God calls us to become rulers over sin. That is to say, He wants us to use the power we have been given - to be Kings & Queens. We are a part of His Kingdom that He called us to bring upon the earth. God gave us a mission: to look after His creation. To take responsibility for it. Unlike Cain, who, after killing his brother, asks "Am I my brother's keeper?", we should ask "How can I save my brother?".

The day...the week...the year will surely come to an end. And we are left with questions. Not only should we try to ask the right questions...but we should also attempt to answer them, with the guidance of God's word. For His word lives in and through us, for it was the word that created us. And His word was, is and will be good. Therefore we are good. We have to master the word, to master the serpent who tempts us every day. We weren't called to be servants to sin.

Ask, so that you may receive. Our words are just as powerful as God's - as long as they are inspired by Him.

And as I journey through God's word, I will find new questions...and new answers. New doubts, and new revelations. New hindrances, and new solutions.

Because there was evening, and there was morning.
